Chesterfield to Preston and Everything In Between

Yesterday, 29th March 2013, Good Friday, Jen and myself decided to go on a trip.  Well, when I say decided, it was a case of, I had to go to Chroley to take a part to a customer, and asked if she fancied a trip and go to either Manchester or Preston afterwards. En route to Chorley we had to pass through Stockport!  This was a first to me.  My god, what a poor road system they have! Roads are 2 lanes in each direction, despite not really being wide enough for it, people do what they like, and everywhere is 30/40mph!  Even rural roads! Not long after 10am, we arrive in Chorley and drop off a package.  We then stopped into the Morrisons they have in town for a brew.  Whilst there, we decided to go into Preston using their Park & Ride service.  If I remember correctly, we parked up win Walton le Dale. En route from Chorly to Park & Ride, we spotted a few nice motors, the first being a bright orange Lamborghini Mucilago, followed later by a Carr...

A Few Recent Homemade Desserts

Image
I've been wondering for a while what to focus my blog on, and it dawned on me recently.  Food, travel and running.  These three things seem to be what my life is based around at the moment. So, starting things off, here are a few desserts my partner has made over the last couple of months.  Future postings will no doubt include more pictures, and also recipes.  But for now, these will have to do. ---------------- Firstly, we have a cheescake that Jen made around the start of the year.  A simple vanilla cheesecake with some chocolate sprinkles on top.  The base was different from the usual cheesecake base, but I'll be dammed if I can remember what she used now. Here are a couple of pictures once the cake was complete.  Enough to serve 8-12 people, 4 of us destroyed this in one sitting!  Initially only half was served up between 4 of us, but then we decided to have a second helping. ---------------- Next up, not strictly a dess...

That Smug Feeling

News to come soon I hope,  but I think it's only fair to admit it,  I have had a feeling of smugness on an epic level recently. All shall be revealed shortly.

I'm Getting Old

Yes, I know by definition we all are getting old at the same rate, but today I said something I thought I never would.  Me and the GM had Radio 1 on in the office, when we both commented how all the songs that had been played sounded rubbish and the same. We wasn't just saying it because it wasn't "our thing", they 100% genuinely did sound very alike.  Oh, and then they played some hip hop.  First, it sounded like some white boy who must be about as gangsta as Will Smith, and then Jay Z with someone else which actually sounded terrible (and I like some of his stuff). I'm fairly certain that saying all new music sounds the same, is the start of old age :)

The Internet Is Taking Over Our High Street

Over the past couple of weeks, you have no doubt heard about the closure of several high street retailers, namely Jessops, HMV and Blockbuster.  It wasn't all that long ago we lost Woolworths, and most recently, Game ad Jonathan James have struggled. I'll be honest, out of the 3 recent closures, HMV doesn't at all surprise me.  You might think I'm just saying this, but Dec 24th 2011 I actually said to the other half that within a year they would be gone from the high street.  Ok, I may have been a couple of weeks off on my prediction, but hey, I guessed it. My reason?  Well, it was December 24th, 2011, and we had popped into town.  Noticing how dead and empty the town centre was, I just happened to mention that within 25 years, there will be no high street.  In fact, in 25 years, all I see our "high streets" consisting of are clothes shops, cafes/coffee shops and maybe shops that offer a service. As I work (read as co run) a successful e-commerce stor...

Well That Sucks

In the space of 24hrs I've had a mortgage in principal, a quote and then today had my first offer rejected and told that the seller isn't open to offers..... We'll see about that!
