Project "Little Black Bean"

Image
We are getting a Bedlington Terrier, and will be picking him up on 8/10/13. He was born on 11/8/13. His name will be revealled shortly. We went to view his at 2 and a half weeks old Getting a little sleepy now SWMBO fell in love with him straight away, and decided we would have him. So, we paid a second visit last night (20/9/13), just shy of 6 weeks old He was asleep when we got there, so were his sisters. But after a little nudge, he soon woke up. First thing we noticed was how well toilet trained he is already. The breader took him straight out, and other than a couple of accidents due to the excitement, he knew to go over to the door when he wanted to go out. Oh, and he bounces around, terrorising the other dog they have. And wouldn't stop wriggling about. Very hard to get some non-blurred images After almost an hour of play, he got a little tired.  And sleep..... He's grown so much. Massive compared to two of his sisters. He's also the only one staying "local"

Bourne Trilogy

Image
I watched the whole trilogy in one sitting yesterday. This was the first time I'd ever seen the films. All in all, they were good, however, I wouldn't suggest to anyone watching them all in one go as they being to feel "samey". Here's my review in pictures

Time To Man Up

I've always said that I've never watched many "man" films that men "should" watch. You know, the likes of Godfather, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Star Wars etc etc..... So, after a discussion at work today, one of the lads has decided he's going to "man me up" (not in a gay way lol) and bring a dvd a week in for me to watch. His list so far is: Godfather 1 & 2 Scarface Bourne Trilogy Leon Pulp Fiction Fight Club Sin City O Brother The Departed I haven't watched ANY of the above. I'm not saying I haven't watched any, but feel like I'm supposedly "missing out" on some of these. The first three in that list have always been on my "to watch" list, but never got around to it. Other films mentioned included Star Wars, Trainspotter, Lock Stock (think I've seen that/most of that), Full Metal Jacket and a few others that went over the top of my head. I think I'll be starting with the Bourne Tr

John Terry

I see he kitted up again to collect another trophy.Apparently, the ruling is, you can only collect a trophy if you have the team kit on. IMO, the rule should be, only 18 players can collect the trophy - 11 starting and 7 subs! Plus the manager of course.I understand he played in games leading up to the final, for which he will get a winners medal, but he had no part to play in last nights events! It'd be like Roy Keane kitting up back in 1999 when Utd won the CL Final. He couldn't play in the final because he was suspended, therefore, no part to play in the final, so no chance to lift the cup. What Terry is doing seems childish IMO. On a side note, the picture will be used at Pub Quizs and Question of Sport etc in years to come asking "what is wrong with this photo/footage"So, for the footy fans, what are your thoughts?

Chesterfield to Preston and Everything In Between

Yesterday, 29th March 2013, Good Friday, Jen and myself decided to go on a trip.  Well, when I say decided, it was a case of, I had to go to Chroley to take a part to a customer, and asked if she fancied a trip and go to either Manchester or Preston afterwards. En route to Chorley we had to pass through Stockport!  This was a first to me.  My god, what a poor road system they have! Roads are 2 lanes in each direction, despite not really being wide enough for it, people do what they like, and everywhere is 30/40mph!  Even rural roads! Not long after 10am, we arrive in Chorley and drop off a package.  We then stopped into the Morrisons they have in town for a brew.  Whilst there, we decided to go into Preston using their Park & Ride service.  If I remember correctly, we parked up win Walton le Dale. En route from Chorly to Park & Ride, we spotted a few nice motors, the first being a bright orange Lamborghini Mucilago, followed later by a Carrera 4S, and then finally, a classi

A Few Recent Homemade Desserts

Image
I've been wondering for a while what to focus my blog on, and it dawned on me recently.  Food, travel and running.  These three things seem to be what my life is based around at the moment. So, starting things off, here are a few desserts my partner has made over the last couple of months.  Future postings will no doubt include more pictures, and also recipes.  But for now, these will have to do. ---------------- Firstly, we have a cheescake that Jen made around the start of the year.  A simple vanilla cheesecake with some chocolate sprinkles on top.  The base was different from the usual cheesecake base, but I'll be dammed if I can remember what she used now. Here are a couple of pictures once the cake was complete.  Enough to serve 8-12 people, 4 of us destroyed this in one sitting!  Initially only half was served up between 4 of us, but then we decided to have a second helping. ---------------- Next up, not strictly a dessert, and something not made by

That Smug Feeling

News to come soon I hope,  but I think it's only fair to admit it,  I have had a feeling of smugness on an epic level recently. All shall be revealed shortly.

I'm Getting Old

Yes, I know by definition we all are getting old at the same rate, but today I said something I thought I never would.  Me and the GM had Radio 1 on in the office, when we both commented how all the songs that had been played sounded rubbish and the same. We wasn't just saying it because it wasn't "our thing", they 100% genuinely did sound very alike.  Oh, and then they played some hip hop.  First, it sounded like some white boy who must be about as gangsta as Will Smith, and then Jay Z with someone else which actually sounded terrible (and I like some of his stuff). I'm fairly certain that saying all new music sounds the same, is the start of old age :)

The Internet Is Taking Over Our High Street

Over the past couple of weeks, you have no doubt heard about the closure of several high street retailers, namely Jessops, HMV and Blockbuster.  It wasn't all that long ago we lost Woolworths, and most recently, Game ad Jonathan James have struggled. I'll be honest, out of the 3 recent closures, HMV doesn't at all surprise me.  You might think I'm just saying this, but Dec 24th 2011 I actually said to the other half that within a year they would be gone from the high street.  Ok, I may have been a couple of weeks off on my prediction, but hey, I guessed it. My reason?  Well, it was December 24th, 2011, and we had popped into town.  Noticing how dead and empty the town centre was, I just happened to mention that within 25 years, there will be no high street.  In fact, in 25 years, all I see our "high streets" consisting of are clothes shops, cafes/coffee shops and maybe shops that offer a service. As I work (read as co run) a successful e-commerce store,

Well That Sucks

In the space of 24hrs I've had a mortgage in principal, a quote and then today had my first offer rejected and told that the seller isn't open to offers..... We'll see about that!

Finding My Feet

Since setting up this blog, I have been asking myself if I should be covering a certain subject.  Or should it be more like an online diary, and post about general things that interest me? I've also been looking at various templates and designs, and still cannot think what to go with, so for the time being, I'll use this rather smart, standard design from Blogger. If anyone out there is reading my blog other than myself, I would appreciate a comment, particularly if you are a blogger too.  Should I cover a particular subject (or group of subjects) or just generally talk about what is on my mind on that day etc?

Stating The Obvious

Good evening all, I hope you have all had a good New Year, and settled back in at work now. Straight to the point tonight, watching TV about life on Earth and how we couldn't live without the oceans and how the current move oxygen, blah blah blah.  When the narrator then said that Plankton produce around 50% of oxygen on Earth. He then said in the next breath "that's almost as much as all the forest, trees and plants combined".  You don't say! Where else did you think the remaining 50% came from? That wasn't all, after that, I caught the end of a documentary about the prisoners who escaped from Alcatraz and how bones had been found on a shore nearby. They went on to say that these could belong to "Prisoner X" and will do tests.  About 10 minutes later, after talking about other bits and bobs, they got around to the results. Turned out that they weren't the remains of Prisoner X.  Again, stating the obvious, the narrator said "If the bone
